Common Questions
What is Music Missionary?
Music Missionary is a web based 501(c)3 outreach charity that provides instruments to any young person who pledges to learn to play one Christian Anthem. To our knowledge there is no other charity doing this in the world today.
How did Music Missionary get started?
Our founder, a Christian choir drummer for over 25 years, watched as fewer and fewer youth attended Church. A generation was turning its back to God because he thought they were lost in the static noise of cell phones and social media.
Being a self-taught musician he knew how repetitive practice locks in memory; the same for hit songs, hear it enough times and you can't forget it. Hymn's as well, who doesn't remember "Jesus Loves Me"? He felt that "if he could plant that seed and if they learned it by teaching themselves how to play, that would be cool, very cool."
There are a lot of kids who don't know Jesus Christ but one by one we can tell them about Jesus without saying a word, they will find him themselves when learning to play a Christian hymn.
We welcome all donors who are moved by this unique Christian outreach to join us and become a Music Missionary!
How does music foster a spiritual connection?
Music is a sacred gift that serves as a bridge to the divine. Being a self-taught musician, and knowing first hand the power of repetitive practice, our Founder believes that by learning worship songs young people turn practice into prayer, creating a spiritual environment where their faith and artistry grow together.
What grade of instruments are provided?
First, we negotiate with manufacturer's to get the best prices usually not available to the public, rates especially for non-profits.
Second we want intermediate level instruments, not beginner, but above. The instruments we provide are of enough quality to be used in live performances and have manufacturer warranties.
How does Music Missionary commit its donations?
The founder of Music Missionary feels a deep moral and ethical responsibility to the purpose of the charity. Our non-profit charter by-laws specify 80% of donated dollars will go directly to bring musical instruments to young people upon whom we believe Christianity's future rests.
Can people of different backgrounds volunteer?
Yes, as volunteer opportunities become available those positions are open to anyone aligned with our outreach mission of bring young people closer to God through music regardless of their personal faith, religious denomination, gender or ethnic heritage.
Do you accept donated instruments?
Yes, and are happy to do so, but first we request you email us a picture and description of the instrument with the estimated value. We will respond with our nearest receiving location and remember that all exxpenses to deliver and or shipping charges are 100% tax deductible. Upon receiving your instrument we will email a receipt for tax purposes.
What are NFT's and how are they awarded?
NFT's are digital works of art issued by charities to reward donors or sold at auction to raise funds. Created using blockchain technology they are individually unique and have value as rare collectibles. Unlike standard charity donations where the giver receives nothing tangible, receiving an NFT provides ownership of a unique digital item—such as artwork, photos, or graphics—while simultaneously funding the cause. To see our current selection visit the DONATE tab at the top of each page.
What does Music Missionary mean?
It is simply the core mission of what we do; as a Missionary we reach out to anyone who will listen and promote a Christian lifestyle via a promise challenge to learn Christian music.
How does a young person request an instrument?
Simple, from our "Request an Instrument" page a young person specifies a chosen instrument and picks one Christian anthem they promise to learn. After downloading and submitting for review a completed parental consent form, including a clergymans validation, an "Angels in Waiting" tracking number is issued that they can follow as we service their request.
Are non-denomination religions invited to participate?
YES, all denominations of Christians and non-Christians can participate. That's the beauty of using universally known Christian Anthems because both believers and non-believers have heard them. Now add the promised exercise of learning to play and sing them and their impact is forever planted in their memory, thus a spiritual connection is made.
Do you receive govenment grants or public funding?
No, we have not applied for govenment grants and subsist solely from private donations and any institution that believes our Mission Statement can and will bring young people closer to God through music.
Who oversees the organizations finances?
An independent auditor who follows PCAOB rules will provide annual audits and recommendations to our Board of Directors for financial oversight, strategic direction and to ensure compliance with 501(c)3 tax exempt standards. In addition our legal counsel attends every meeting of our Board of Diretors.
What do you do with donated instruments?
We inspect and grade donated instruments for their best use, some are sold via charity auction with the proceeds used to buy new instruments for our "Angels in Waiting". Some instruments are packaged together and provided to schools or special needs facilities.
